ISTTE is an international organization of educators in travel, tourism, and other related fields representing all levels of educational institutions. Our membership ranges from professional schools and high schools to four year colleges and graduate degree granting universities. Current membership is represented by travel and tourism educators in the United States, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, Ireland, Great Britain, Germany, China, South Korea, and others.The 39th Annual ISTTE Conference welcomes you to submit academic research papers (full, working, & posters) and education workshop proposals.
Due to the Covid-19 situation, the conference will not be held in Iceland on October 5~7, 2020, but a virtual conference is being planned. We expect to share more information about the virtual conference soon.
*NEW Special Tracks* Call for Papers, Posters and Workshops
Given the unprecedented times by the global COVID-19, the 39th Annual ISTTE Conference announces a NEW call for papers/workshops in TWO Special Tracks: 1) The Impact of COVID-19 on Tourism & Hospitality: Issues, Strategies, Innovations, 2) The New Normal: Virtual Education in Tourism & Hospitality. We welcome you to submit Papers, Posters, and Workshops that focus specifically on the impact of COVID-19 on tourism and hospitality and on teaching strategies for online education. We are looking for research papers and workshop proposals that focus on virtual teaching strategies, feasibility, issues, synchronous and asynchronous curriculum planning, and other related topics.

Guideline for Submission
- Electronic submissions are required. A file (only PDF files allowed) for each submission must be sent through EasyChair no later than the deadline indicated above using this site:
- Be sure to fill out the following information in your EasyChair submission:
- Type of submission-full paper, working paper, poster or
- Title of the paper: Include the “SPECIAL TRACK” in your title, full, working or poster
- The list of authors and respective affiliations with the lead author first
- The contact author for the submission (e-mail and telephone number)
- The paper file document should include: (a) the title of the paper and (b) the type of submission. The file name for the paper MUST be the title of the paper. Authors' names and affiliations should NOT be indicated on the paper.
- For each submission, papers longer than the required page limit including tables, figures, references, and appendices will be reviewed based on the required page limit only.
- Papers should be submitted in 12-point Times New Roman font format, 1.5 inch for the left margin and 1 inch for all other margins, letter-size paper and as a PDF.

Types of Submission
All proposed papers/workshops must be submitted according to the selection process outlined below. All submissions must represent original research that has not been presented in other conferences or published in any journal.
1. Full Paper
- Full papers will be a comprehensive presentation of a completed research project. Typically these will offer an examination of research goals and provide insights into theoretical underpinnings, research methodologies, findings and conclusions drawn to advance the knowledge within the profession.
- Paper Length: 5000 words excluding the title, abstract, figures, tables and references
- Abstract maximum of 150 words
- Maximum of four keywords
- Indication of which of the five themes the paper fits
2. Working Paper
- Working papers typically report the results of research in its early stages. They present thought-provoking and innovative ideas and strive to promote critical discussions that are pertinent to our professional, intellectual and contemporary global concerns about travel and tourism practices and education.
- Paper Length: 1,500 words excluding the title, abstract, figures, tables and references
- Abstract maximum of 150 words
- Maximum of four keywords
- Indication of which of the five themes the paper fits
3. Poster
- For poster presentations, please include a statement of purpose, brief literature review, methodology and results in the extended research abstract.
- Submission Length: 1,000 words excluding the title, abstract, figures, tables and references
- Abstract maximum of 100 words
- Maximum of four keywords
- Authors of accepted posters will be expected to set up and discuss their research findings on their posters at a predetermined time during the conference schedule.
4. Workshops
- Workshop presentations are designed to provide an opportunity for a focused presentation of topics of special interest to travel and tourism educators. Proposals for these sessions should strive to demonstrate an optimum level of thematic cohesion and value and designed to provoke, challenge, and generate discussion. Use the Workshop Proposal Application Form for Special Tracks included in the document of "Guidelines for Special Topic Submissions." Typically, these sessions are expected to be approximately 60 minutes in presentation length which includes time for Q & A during the session.
- There are several workshop formats including: lecture, panel, roundtable, seminar or other. The presentation format selected should allow for an opportunity to discuss and debate contemporary issues of interest to travel and tourism educators.
Awards
- Best Paper/Workshop for Special Tracks
The Best Special Track Awards will be selected based 50% on submitted papers and 50% on conference presentation by the Conference Paper Review Co-chairs and the Editor of Journal of Teaching in Travel Tourism.
General information about research papers (complete, working, and posters) and workshops
- While the deadline for Research Papers and Workshops for general topics was closed on March 31, an extension request for late submission is still accepted. Please contact Co-chairs for further inquiries.
- There will be four awards for general topics: Best Full Paper, Best Working Paper, Best Poster, and Best Workshop.
