Aims and Scope
Today it’s all about the connected smarter world, the smart cities aimed at smarter planet Earth. It is also a sensor-driven world, generating lots of data to be mined for societal upliftment and the trend is on the increase and we are for sure going to witness more automation & machine intelligence in the future. So, the societal implications of automation will prove to be of paramount significance. Artificial Intelligence is a technique which has gained a renewed interest among the researchers due to these technological developments and will see a continuous rise in its humane applications for the betterment of mankind. So the expansion of computing and machine intelligence is going to find tremendous seamless applications in almost all the possible domains viz; healthcare, education, privacy and cybersecurity, and energy and environmental management. We shall witness new AI based problem solving approaches, algorithms & methods, tools & applications for societal needs in the time to come. It will open a new vista and avenues for people and will imbibe sustainable approach of development.
Sustainable Development is the organizing principle for meeting human development goals while simultaneously sustaining the ability of natural systems to provide the natural resources and ecosystem services upon which the economy and society depend. AI is proving to be a game changer with its wide applications in almost all the societal domains. It can help humankind in achieving sustainability through technology and can really help in achieving Sustainable Development Goals as conceived by UNESCO for more sustainable future of all.
AI capabilities are being used in various ways to further societal goals and finds application in case of natural disasters such as floods, earthquake, hurricane, etc. by identifying safe escape routes by combining satellite imagery, optimization of resources, real time intelligent monitoring and many more similar applications. We can see considerable potential for computer vision, natural language processing, even deep learning applied to traditional databases, as well as other AI capabilities, to make a very sizeable difference.
This book aims at emphasizing the latest developments & achievements in the field of Artificial Intelligence and related technologies with a special focus on sustainable development and eco-friendly AI applications. The book will target high quality scientific articles (theory, practical including prototype & conceptualization of ideas, case studies and critical surveys) covering all aspects of AI for Sustainable Development. This book will help to identify those aspects of connected smarter world that are key enablers of AI sustainable applications and its sustenance as a futuristic technology. This book will help to identify those aspects of connected Social Smart Objects and Social Media networks that are key enablers Social Internet of Things and use of AI for a sustainable future.
In this book, we would like to try to answer some (or all) of the following questions on innovative ways of supporting the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to achieve sustainable development:
What will be the effect on Policy Making regulations when the connected smart applications become more and more prevalent? What are the privacy consequences & considerations with connected smart world? What kind of privacy policies or no policy will be defined for the connected smart world? What kind of education and training are required for all stakeholders of such connected smart world in order to reap full benefits of the AI based solutions for a sustainable future? What kind of ground breaking applications can make connected smart world order more attractive? What will be the acceptability aspects of connected smart applications and how will they impact societal development?
