Extended versions of ICDATA'18 and ICDATA'19 papers are welcome! But the CfP is open, i.e., it is not exclusively for extended conference papers.
Data Science: Methods and Applications
Special Issue in Annals of Information Systems, Springer
Data Science is an emerging interdisciplinary domain that has been progressively forming over the past decade. It addresses three pressing needs: a coherent scientific approach to rising data challenges, a development of practical tools and frameworks for managing complete data life cycle, and a growing demand for new professionals. Vast amounts of structured data and even more semi-structured and unstructured data are produced daily. Present trends indicate that the rapid data expansion will interpenetrate into a broader spectrum of scientific, commercial and social spheres. Explosion of data and its diversity has been challenging scientists and practitioners in a range of areas. The necessity to cope with these challenges gave birth to Data Science.
Despite the importance of this field, there is a considerable lack of published material providing comprehensive interdisciplinary perspectives on timely developments. This volume in the Annals of Information Systems series published by Springer – ‘Data Science: Methods and Applications’ – aims at providing a balanced treatment of the latest advances and developments at the intersection of data science and filling that significant gap. As editors, we would like to highlight new dissemination avenues for academics and practitioners exploring synergies at the intersection of Data Science
The journal ‘Annals of Information Systems’ will devote a special issue to topics focused on Data Science from the perspective of methods as well as of applications. It will highlight the synergies between information systems and data science. Contributions describing (real world) applications and solutions and papers focusing on algorithmic aspects or theoretical approaches are particularly encouraged.
Submission Guidelines
Manuscripts should be submitted as pdf file via the platform ‘EasyChair’ only, i.e., submissions by email will not be accepted. Do not be irritated by the project name in EasyChair (‘ICDATA19’), this is for organizational purposes only. Papers should provide a cover page containing paper title, authors – including indication of corresponding author – and a short statement of contribution (max. 100 words). It should also include a citation for any previously published versions of the paper (e.g., in ICDATA proceedings) and a short description of the extensions made to the earlier version. The cover page can be submitted within the same pdf file as the main text. The manuscript must be typewritten in English and 1.5-spaced throughout using ample margins, single column, and A4 or US Letter format. Papers should not exceed 20 pages including abstract but excluding tables, figures and references. Please consult the editors if you need to extend this limit. Tables and figures should be inserted into the main body of the manuscript. Manuscripts previously published at a conference must provide substantially revised extensions of the previously published version and must include a different title.
Authors are strongly encouraged to use either the LaTeX text editing system or Microsoft Word for preparing their submissions. Later, more detailed formatting instructions will be provided for preparing the camera-ready paper.
Review Process
Each manuscript must comply with the journal’s formatting instructions and will be peer-reviewed according to the usual standards of an esteemed international journal. The quality and originality of the contribution will serve as major acceptance criteria for each submission. The editors of the special issue will first evaluate whether a manuscript has sufficient merit to be sent to referees for a detailed review. If not, the paper will be returned to the authors with a short explanation of the editor’s reasoning. To enable a timely publication of the special issue, papers that are unequivocally out of scope will be rejected without detailed review.
