CAPT International Student Symposium is the College of Alice & Peter Tan's flagship academic event that provides a platform to bring together students, experts and academics from diverse backgrounds to speak about their work, share ideas and make new connections in the fields of Community Engagement and Active Citizenship.
The theme of this year is "Tilt-shift". It was inspired by the concept of Tilt-shift Photography. It combines the technique of tilting lenses to enhance the depth of field along with the shifting of lenses to capture more in a single frame. This form of photography allows one to change perspectives and capture more without distorting the image.
When approaching social issues, our minds are used to forming judgements based on a lens that we have grown comfortable with. However, by tilting this lens, we can explore differing perspectives of the same issues.
By shifting our lens, we can engage in social issues from varied critical distances - sometimes taking a step back to grasp the big picture, other times digging deeper into the intricate details. By changing our critical distances, we hope to acquire a more holistic view of the same social issue, capturing greater nuances within a single mind frame.
You can contribute as a:
- Panel speaker - you will be given the opportunity to present your project and to engage in a 40 minutes discussion with the other panelists during the panel session. Each speaker will be given a duration of 10 minutes for presentation.
- Poster presenter - your project will be featured on a printed poster and you will have the opportunity to explain the project to interested participants during the poster presentation session.
