Submission Guidelines
The celebration of this Workshop on “Future Trends in Assistive Technology” at the 9th International Conference on Current and Future Trends of Information and Communication Technologies in Healthcare (ICTH) (http://cs-conferences.acadiau.ca/icth-19/index.html), to be held in Coimba (Portugal), from 04-07 November 2019, responds to the needs of establishing a broad meeting forum for professionals from the world of research and development, rehabilitation and special education, working in the field of scientific-technological innovations of technical aids for people with disabilities. This Workshop aims to increase the knowledge among professionals working on these issues, fostering collaboration among them.
This Workshop involves original works of study, design, development, experimentation and evaluation of new devices, methods or strategies, in order to achieve greater autonomy and participation (social, labor, school, community, etc.) of people with disabilities that in turn result in more significant personal development and a better quality of life.
Goals and Topics of Interest
This Workshop has scheduled oral presentations within the following areas:
- Mobility and orientation: an area that includes technological aids for the displacement and direction of people in the environment that surrounds them.
- Communication: technical aids for augmentative and alternative communication.
- Manipulation: area that includes technological aids to control the physical and social environment.
- Horizontal Actions: activities whose result is not a technological development in itself, but which facilitates research and technical development by studying the influence of the political and legal environment, socioeconomic, manufacturing processes, distribution, standardization, specialized training, or financing of technologies to support disability.
Submissions
All submissions must be in English and either PDF or postscript format. Papers should be formatted using the main conference guidelines as the state in the ICTH 2019 main program. The submissions will be reviewed by at least two PC members and will be judged based on their clarity, relevance, originality, contribution, and interest to the workshop participants. Authors should send their papers to https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ftat2019.
Publication of Papers
All papers accepted for workshops will be included in the ICTH 2019 proceedings, which will be published by Elsevier. The authors must follow Elsevier guidelines as given in the ICTH 2019 Website. The number of pages for workshop papers is limited to 6 pages. Workshop organizers could recommend selected outstanding papers to the main conference chairs. After further revision, these papers could be considered for publication in journals special issues. Workshop organizers can also edit their special journal issues.
