The Learning, Education & Games SIG (part of the IGDA – International Game Developers Association) created a series of books on games and learning with ETC Press called Learning, Education & Games.
The fourth book in the series will be on games for inclusion, justice, and equity, and will include 50 chapters on games. The fifth book is now open for possible chapters.
Educators and parents often ask us to recommend games for their students and kids. It’s no wonder: picking the right game can be an overwhelming process, as there are so many different types of games available and so many questions to consider. Who is the audience? What are the learning goals? What is the context for using the game? What would be considered success? Does it have to be a strictly educational game—or can we use a commercial game and adapt it for classroom use?
Or, what about diverse representation and the ability to foster inclusion? How a game might connect to DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) initiatives or SEL (social emotional learning)?
Even if we know the answer to these questions, actually finding the exact games that match our needs is another difficult step. We hope this guide, 50 More Games to Use for Inclusion, Equity, and Justice, will help to find the right games to use.
