Book Title: Discipline and Resistance: Politics of Space in Asian Diasporic Fiction in English
Publisher: Springer
Synopsis:
Space and spatial relations are significant in understanding human relations, politics and identity formation. This volume would seek to explore the representation of space in Asian diasporic fiction in English in order to shed light on how diasporic individuals constitute, experience, and navigate space; how their identities are shaped within different spaces; and how different spaces are deployed to exercise discipline and resistance. Thus, the proposed research would ideally aim to adopt a political approach to spatial relations, exploring both the disciplinary practices of the state (homeland and/or host-land) and resistant practices of the Asian diasporic individual. The volume aims to include chapters on each of the national traditions and diasporic communities of the Asian continent. It would feature chapters on important new and emergent forms such as the autobiographical narratives, graphic novel, genre fiction and the short story.
We welcome book chapter contributions centered (but not exclusively) on the following themes:
- Theoretical foundations of diasporic spaces
- Dystopian, utopian, eutopian, & heterotopian spaces
- Space and gender relations
- Space and racial formations
- Space, power, and resistance
- Space and production of knowledge
- Spaces of discipline and governmentality
- Spaces of remembering and forgetting
