PaPE 2023 is the fifth conference of the PaPE series which aims at being an interdisciplinary forum for research on all areas of phonetics and phonology, promoting the study of speech approached from multiple perspectives, including experimental phonetics, formal phonology, neurolinguistics, psycholinguistics, computational linguistics, and speech technologies. PaPE 2023 is supported by Radboud University’s Centre for Language Studies (CLS).
The theme of PaPE 2023 is “Speech Variation in the Wild”. We particularly welcome contributions dealing with the study of speech in its natural habitat: this includes the study of speech and language variation, bi/multilingual speech, and the use of natural data in studies of phonetics and phonology. Thematic abstracts may focus on theoretical or methodological ramifications of using natural speech. Non-thematic abstracts are also welcomed.
In addition to the main conference, we are inviting applications for satellite events, such as workshops and tutorials. Satellite events can take place on 1st and 5th June 2023.
Submission Guidelines
Abstracts should be written in English and not exceed one page of text (A4), though an additional page for references, examples, and figures may also be added. Please use the MS Office Word template provided at pape-conference.org/template.html. If using the template is not possible, please format your abstract as follows: Times New Roman font, size 12, 2.54 cm (1 inch) margins, single spacing. Do not include author names or affiliations, and submit as property-free PDF file using author names separated by underscores as filename (e.g., smith_dejong_papadopoulos.pdf).
Abstracts may be submitted either for a ‘talk/poster’, or as a ‘poster only’. We anticipate that talks will be of 15 minutes duration (with an extra 5 minutes for questions). Authors may submit one abstract as first author and up to three abstracts as a co-author. Please indicate upon submission if the first author has student status. Choose at least three keywords for your submission.
Proposals for satellite events (maximum 3 pages) should be sent to the conference email address, pape2023.conference@gmail.com, by 16 January 2023. They should include the following information: title and brief description of the event (one page maximum); names, affiliations, and brief bios of the organizers; format, proposed duration, and desired date (1 or 5 June 2023) of event; invited participants (if any); estimated number of participants; technical requirements.
