RoPat 2020 - IEEE/RSJ IROS 2020 Workshop on Robot-Assisted Training for Primary Care: How can robots help train doctors in medical examinations?
Physical examination in primary care involves a complicated interplay among active haptic, audio, and visual perception in a medical practitioner. These active perception skills require years of experience for effective non-interventional diagnosis. This workshop aims to discuss the challenges in the interactions between medical practitioners, robotic-patients and patients during medical training. We are collaborating closely with medical experts to explore ideas in incorporating advance technological, and surgical/medical robotic solutions to help practitioners enhance their perception and interaction with patients during medical examination.
This workshop encourages experts from the medical and technical fields to come together to share their experience, and to understand clinical and technical requirements in designing realistic robotic training platforms for medical trainees. With realistic haptics and physiological design of robots for training, students are able to acquire and sharpen their perception skills without practising on actual patients. This will in turn help provide more accurate diagnosis of patients condition during physical examination and reduce, if not eliminate the need for harmful and costly interventions, such as CT or MRI scans.
Submission Guidelines
We welcome researchers in the field to submit papers or extended abstracts to be presented as posters. Considering the current situation due to Covid-19, both a 2-minute recorded presentation and a poster are required if the manuscript is accepted. Submitted manuscripts should be up to 2 pages plus references, formatted according to the IEEE conference proceedings template. The submitted contributions will go through a single-blind review process and be selected based on the originality, technical contributions, clarity in presentation, and relevance to the workshop topics.
