Corporate Governance Center at Alfaisal University is pleased to host the first international conference in Saudi Arabia on corporate governance. The conference will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on December 9th, 2019.
Corporate governance has evolved rapidly during the last two decades and has had a tremendous impact on all countries and business organizations. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recently issued comprehensive corporate governance principles to help companies adopt good governance principles. The main objective of the conference is to bring academicians, lawyers, policymakers, and business sector representatives from the Kingdom and abroad to exchange their perspectives on best practices and major challenges in corporate governance. The conference will particularly focus on the interaction between good governance, finance, and investment. The conference is expected to provide a platform in which delegates can interact and network, with the topic areas being at the forefront of corporate governance developments and finance within the national, regional, and international contexts. The conference is expected to increase awareness of good governance, promote best practices among the companies, and encourage scholarly research on corporate governance.

Alex’s research interests are in corporate finance (corporate governance, executive compensation, investment/growth/innovation, and M&A), behavioral finance, corporate social responsibility, and practical investment strategies."
Alex’s research has been covered by The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, New York Times, The Economist, and The Times; and he has been interviewed by Bloomberg, BBC, CNBC, CNN, ESPN, Fox, ITV, NPR, Reuters, Sky News, and Sky Sports. He was awarded the Moskowitz Prize for Socially Responsible Investing and the Investor Responsibility Research Centre prize, and was named a Rising Star of Corporate Governance by Yale University and a Rising Star of Finance by NYU/Fordham/RPI. Alex has spoken at the World Economic Forum in Davos, testified in the UK Parliament, presented to the World Bank Board of Directors as part of the Distinguished Speaker Series, and given the TED talk What to Trust in a Post-Truth World and the TEDx talk The Social Responsibility of Business. He has written op-eds for the Wall Street Journal and Financial Times, writes regularly for Harvard Business Review, Huffington Post, World Economic Forum, and CityAM, and runs a blog, Access to Finance, that aims to make complex finance topics accessible to a general audience.
Dr. Alfred E. Osborne Jr. Professor of Global Economics, Management and Entrepreneurship, Founder, Director Education, and Certification Program, Faculty Director, Price Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management
Osborne is interested in leadership development, specifically, “how young people in this turbulent world can find their voice and develop the ability to influence a challenging environment by being powerful. This speaks to my theme of moral, value-based leadership, with an active practice of achieving desired outcomes in constructive and collaborative ways.”
Osborne’s areas of academic expertise include social entrepreneurship and the development of a leadership approach that applies business models and methodologies to the nonprofit world. Under his leadership, the Price Center created a number of management development programs, including five in partnership with health care giant Johnson & Johnson.
Simon Osborne is the former Chief Executive and a Board Evaluation Consultant of International Corporate Governance Network (ICSA):The Governance Institute
Simon joined ICSA in 2003 as Head of ICSA Board Evaluation. In 2005, he became Chairman of the ICSA Company Secretaries’ Forum. He worked as Chief Executive between 2011-2019. Before joining ICSA, Simon was a freelance governance consultant. In that capacity he acted as the Joint Head of ICSA Board Evaluation, working with companies, UK regulators and other organisations. Until April 2003 Simon’s career was in the British railway industry as general counsel, company secretary and latterly as main board executive director. Simon is a past chairman of ICSA’s Company Secretaries Forum, which comprises mainly company secretaries from mainly FTSE 350 companies. He is a member of the International Corporate Governance Network and chairs its Bylaws & Procedures Committee. He is a NED of two small media companies and deputy chair of a charity.
CG Excellence Award
At the conference, Alfaisal University Corporate Governance Center will release its annual CGI scores and ranking for all listed companies in the Kingdom. Top three companies within the financial sectors and the top five companies within non-financial sectors will receive the CG Excellence Award.

All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference.
- The abstract shall be around 500 words
- All submissions should be along with Curriculum Vitae and photos.
- Language: English & Arabic
- Writing format:
- Full paper should be between 6000-11000 words A4, 1.0 spacing, TNR 12, papers with (at least) 3 JEL Classifications
- Symbol and equation must be written using Microsoft Equation
- Reference must follow APA Style
