Call for Papers : 5th Youth for Information Technology Research Summit 2021
Virtual YRS 2021 aims to provide the Filipino youth a dynamic digital platform for presentation and exchange of diverse ideas focused on the computing science and technologies, aspiring to contribute to the global sustainable development goals in promoting inclusive economic growth, innovation and reducing poverty.
It serves as a capacity building and dynamic learning experience for young IT researchers that are conceptualizing their ideas for either their thesis, capstone/research projects and/or paper requirements of their corresponding colleges/universities from all over the country.
The best ideas from among the submissions will be selected that will compete for the best paper award for each category namely Information Systems / Information Technology and Computer Science.
As the call for papers is for young researchers, the criteria for eligibility and submission requirements are as follows: (1) the primary author/s should not be over 40 years old and is/are Filipino citizen/s; (2) abstract entry with maximum of 400 words; (3) scanned copy of valid ID with picture and signature; and (4) endorsement letter from corresponding head of institution (i.e., President, Dean, IT Chairperson, Director). All the abovementioned requirements should be appended in the abstract submission.
The main criteria for judging of paper presentations are as follows:
- 40% ICT Innovation & Creativity
- 30% Clarity & Quality of Presentation
- 30% Socio-economic Benefit
First stage is the preliminary judging, wherein all abstract entries submitted will be evaluated and the top 9 - 15 entries will be selected for oral presentation during the event proper.
Second stage will have the selected entries to present their 10-minutes slide presentation with 5 minutes for feedback and recommendations from the panel of judges and the audience. The best paper among the entries from each category will be selected as best paper by the panel of judges represented by academe, government and the industry sector.
In addition, there will be poster presentations selected from among the entries submitted that will also compete for the two categories (1) Information Technology / Systems and (2) Computer Science / Computer Engineering.
The criteria for poster presentations for a total perfect score of 20 are the following:
- Visual Clarity (5 pts)
- Scientific Merit & Innovation (10 pts)
- Socio-economic Benefit (5 pts)
Best posters will be awarded along with the selected best paper presentations at the end of the research summit.
Submission Guidelines
All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference.
What to submit for screening:
- Abstracts describing the research or project concept, its relevance and limitations, methodology and initial results, if any (max 400 words, Arial font size 11). Abstracts should be submitted in pdf format with complete name of author/s, faculty adviser/s and corresponding email addresses, complete name of institutional affiliation and mailing address with zip code. Abstract submitted should include as appendage the endorsement from the head of institutional affiliation (i.e., President, Dean, CS/IT Chairperson) and scanned ID with photo and signature of the student authors.
- Abstract file name format: YRS2021_Title of Abstract (Acronym)
- Posters depicting graphic presentation of the abstract submitted in A1 size, including title, name/s of researcher/s, name of faculty adviser, name of school/institution & logo, summary of concept (relevance, limitations, methodology and conclusion/s).
- Poster file name format: YRS2021_Title of Poster (Acronym)
