WISSLR 2020
The Western Interdisciplinary Student Symposium on Language Research (WISSLR) grants students of all levels the opportunity to present their research in any discipline of linguistics or language studies. Student conferences are a valuable opportunity for students to not just present their research, but also to network with professionals in their field and receive valuable feedback from their peers and superiors.
Submission Guidelines
We are accepting papers for WISSLR 2020, to be held at The University of Western Ontario, London,Ontario Canada on 29th February, 2020 (Saturday). Submissions are restricted to one single-authored paper OR one co-authored paper per individual. Group presenters presenting ONE paper are also welcome. The abstract must be submitted online using the EasyChair abstract submission website, which will provide additional instructions. If you have never used EasyChair before, you will need to register. Should you have any problems submitting your abstract through EasyChair, please contact wisslr.uwo@gmail.com

All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. The following paper categories are welcome: Abstracts describing topics in
- theoretical linguistics: phonetics, phonology, syntax, semantics and morphology

Deadline
The deadline for submission is 15th December, 2019 (Sunday) at 23:59:59 Pacific Standard Time (UTC-8). Please note that late submissions will not be considered. International participants are urged to submit their abstracts at the earliest date possible. We plan to notify participants about the outcome of their submission by mid-January.
Abstract Guidelines
All abstracts should be anonymous and written in English with glosses or translations for words or examples in any other language. Each abstract, including the title and any data in figures or tables, must not exceed 500 words. Data must include interlinear glosses following the Leipzig Glossing Rules. The 500-word abstract should be single-spaced and in a Unicode font no smaller than 11 point, and in .pdf or .doc/.docx format. Abstracts must be submitted electronically via EasyChair.
Review Process
Abstracts will be subject to blind reviews with special attention paid to originality, quality, and relevance. Fifteen minutes will be assigned for each presentation, to be followed by a 5-minute question-and-answer period. Poster presentations will be scheduled at dedicated times; there shall be no simultaneous oral sessions during the poster presentations.
Invited Speakers
The keynote speaker of the 12th annual WISSLR will be Dr. Derek Denis, from University of Toronto, Mississauga. Dr. Denis is a professor in the Department of Language Studies. His research focuses on language variation and change, with a focus on variationist sociolinguistics. For more information, please visit his website.
