XXII International Scientific Conference of Turība University
COMMUNICATION AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF INTERDISCIPLINARY COMPETENCIES IN THE DIGITAL AGE
Date: April 20 and 21
Venue: Turiba Univeristy, Graudu street 68, Riga, Latvia and online
Moderator: Communication expert
In recent years, communication in all its manifestations has experienced a rapid evolution, namely, if earlier, when we heard the word communication, we understood public relations. But today we can imagine something different: integrated communication, digital communication, crisis communication, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, algorithms, avatars, social networks, reputation, branding, internet, corporate social responsibility. To be able to successfully plan and manage communication in your company or institution, professional skills alone are no longer enough for a new specialist. The World Economic Forum 2020 report * on the skills needed for future jobs emphasizes that cross-sectoral skills will be what employers will require. How the young professional will be able to solve complex problems, plan the work and set goals, be able to be creative and learn to work in a team, will play a crucial role. So, to become a successful communication specialist of the future, you will have to learn a number of new tools and methods, as well as work on developing your interdisciplinary skills.
There are many advanced and diverse information channels and tools today, but they are all united by creativity, speed and cross-sectoral competencies. What does creativity mean in this equation? The crucial role that creates different forms and manifestations in modern communication. What is speed? It is not only the ability to create communication, but also to follow its trends, understand the needs and behaviour of target audiences. And finally, cross-sectoral competencies? Today, every process, such as entrepreneurship, is not complete without thinking about linking to audiences.
Nowadays, the customer is not just a consumer of the product, he is our mainstay in building a reputation, which is why it is so important to be able to cooperate, communicate and build relationships with your customer. This means that the skills and competencies that a young communication specialist and entrepreneur need today have also acquired an interdisciplinary nature.
Today, the world has entered the "new normal" and new questions are emerging - what will be the communication of the future? What kind of a person will be the successful new communication specialist? What and how should the new professional be taught for him to acquire all the necessary skills?
This scientific conference is dedicated to the future of the field of communication and the challenges it faces: what are the biggest differences in communication yesterday and today, and what are the new interdisciplinary skills that must be acquired by any professional in the field, and what are the new things in the field.
The conference will take place within the framework of the ERASMUS + Strategic Partnership project “Development of Interdisciplinary skills for cooperation and conflict management”. The project brought together 6 partner universities from Latvia, Lithuania, Austria, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland, which developed various teaching materials and tools for the development of interdisciplinary skills.
