** Abstract submission deadline extended! New date: July 8, 2022. **
Since our first meeting in 2003, Advances and Perspectives in Auditory Neuroscience (APAN) has provided a unique opportunity for the auditory neuroscience community to share their findings, discuss important issues, and network before the annual Society for Neuroscience meeting. As always, our mandate is to showcase the latest, unpublished work in our field, support the professional development of our younger members, and honor the career achievements of an established member of our community through a keynote lecture.
We are thrilled to be returning to an in-person format this year! The meeting will be held at the Westin Gaslamp Quarter, a short walk from the San Diego Convention Center. While we understand that returning to an in-person format will prevent the high level of participation we have enjoyed in the past two years, we also appreciate the value of meeting in person and the extra opportunities that format provides for engagement. Please note that we will maintain some online content from the meeting, which will be made available to those who can't attend.
Please read below for details on abstract submission and registration.
APAN is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for scientific communication. Women and under-represented minorities are strongly encouraged to register for the conference, submit research abstracts and apply for the Young Investigator Spotlight award.
For everyone attending APAN (whether or not you are submitting an abstract)
- APAN will be held on November 11, 2022, 8AM - 6PM PDT, in San Diego, CA.
- Registration fee is $80 for students and postdocs and $120 for faculty and other non-trainees. Registration covers access to the full day of talks and posters, as well as continental breakfast and coffee.
- Note that conference registration is separate from abstract submission. Even if you submit an abstract here, please also register to attend at https://www.med.upenn.edu/apan/registration.html
- Early registration is encouraged (how about right now?), but you will be able to register at the door.
For Young Investigator Spotlight applicants
- The YIS application deadline is July 31, 2022.
- The Young Investigator Spotlight (YIS) is an opportunity for Principal Investigators who have had an independent position for 2-7 years to present 25-minute spotlight talk during the meeting. We wish to particularly encourage submissions from women, BIPOC, and other historically minoritized faculty applicants.
- YIS applications should be submitted by email, not through Easy Chair. See here for detailed instructions: https://www.med.upenn.edu/apan/young-investigator-spotlight.html
- YIS applicants are also welcome to submit a research abstract as presenting author.
For submissions of research abstracts
- Abstract submission deadline is
June 30, 2022extended to July 8, 2022 - Presentations will take the form of short talks, poster teaser talks, and posters. The APAN Organizing Committee will blindly evaluate submitted abstracts and select a small subset of submissions for short podium presentations or brief poster teasers that will be presented to all attendees. Posters will be presented during two poster sessions.
- Abstracts can be submitted through this website, using the abstract submission link: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=apan2022.
- Authors may be listed on multiple submissions but may be the presenting author for only one abstract.
- We encourage you to submit a research abstract in the broad themes of systems, cognitive and computational auditory neuroscience, that touch on any of the following topics:
- auditory memory and cognition
- auditory perceptual disorders
- brain processing of speech and language
- correlates of auditory behavior/perception
- cross-species comparisons
- hierarchical sensory organization
- multisensory processes
- neural coding
- neuroethology and communication
- novel neurotechnologies
- subcortical auditory processing
- thalamocortical circuitry and function
- Submitting an abstract does not register you for the conference! Don't forget to also register at the APAN website: https://www.med.upenn.edu/apan/registration.html.
Keynote speaker: Prof. Shihab Shamma, University of Maryland and École Normale Supérieure.
