“Blockchain Driven Supply Chains and Enterprise Information Systems”
Introduction
A Supply Chain (SC) is a complex and distributed process that consists of a networked architecture, built to manage the exchange of physical and informational assets between suppliers, producers and customers. Unfortunately, SC underlying systems are often facing several types of risks such as downtime, security breaches, and forgery. Knowing the origin and the transfer cycle of the SC products or services and their compliance with international quality standards is becoming a challenge. Moreover, security continues to be a major concern for all the stakeholders in the SC context. Blockchain as a smart ledger or a decentralized logbook can address many challenges related to SC security, transparency and trust. The relationship between transparency and trust is reciprocal, and, as a result, the two must be considered in conjunction in SC management. Blockchain technology is the go-to tool when it comes to implementing a decentralized application that improves information security and maintains trust and transparency between all the actors.
Despite its advantages, blockchain integration is unfortunately not straightforward and presents a lot of challenges related to its open approach when dealing with data.. More specifically to the supply chain, blockchain challenges are related to the way it will represent the data, the way it will interact with traditional centralized systems, and the risks it generates due to poor design or unexpected system behavior after deployment.
This book considers both SC modern implementation of blockchain platforms and the integration of blockchain technology with existing traditional systems.
Book Scope
This book aims at establishing a common ground to provide solutions and best practices around Blockchains for SC. The following focus areas could be considered (not limited to):
- Blockchain integration with SC management
- Decentralized SCs
- Blockchain adoption strategies
- Blockchain Architectures
- Efficiency of blockchain-based SCs
- SC optimization and activities’ automation (Smart Contracts)
- Mapping between Smart Contracts and Procurement Contracts
- Anomaly detection
- Blockchain and Big Data Analytics to understand SC practices
- SC transparency
- Case studies (industry, health, banking, etc)
- Blokchain based Entreprise Information Systems (PLM, MES, WMS, ERP…)
- Blockchain limitations
Academics, researchers, entrepreneurs and professionals are invited to contribute with book chapters. They should consider submitting a full chapter within the timeline provided hereunder.
