Conference Theme: AI and Urban Analytics
The conference theme this year is AI and Urban Analytics. In recent years, AI has re-emerged as a hot topic in science and technology. This new form of AI, built around a number of key enabling technologies, is beginning to see applications across the geospatial sciences. In particular, these technologies show rich promise in urban analytics, due to their potential to model nonlinear and hidden process, structure and interactions of urban systems. However, AI technologies are not without risk, and pose many questions related to ethics, policy, interpretability and inference. In addressing the theme of AI and Urban Analytics, GISRUK 2020 aims to bring together the best research in AI in the geospatial community, and provide a forum for discussing how AI could and should be used in the future.
While AI and Urban Analytics is the main theme, we also encourage submissions that cut across the themes and propose alternative approaches. Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Theory and applications of AI in GIS and Urban Analytics
- Ethics and policy of AI
- Machine Learning
- Deep Learning
- Urban Analytics and Smart Cities
- Geospatial ‘Big Data’
- Geocomputation
- Geosimulation, including agent based models and cellular automata
- Geographic Data Science
- Spatial and Spatio-temporal modelling
- Geodemographics
- Spatial Statistics
- Geographic information retrieval
- Critical GIS
- Uncertainty in GIS
- Cartography and Geovisualisation
- Volunteered Geographic Information
- Web and Open-source GIS
- Applications, including transport, archaeology, criminology, health, environmental science, and digital humanities.
Key dates:
- 10th November - Submissions open
- **Friday 10th January 2020 18:00 - Submission deadline**
- Mid February - Authors will be notified of results

Submission: This year we are accepting submissions of 1500-word extended abstracts, eligible for all (including early career researchers). To submit your abstracts please download the appropriate template and follow the link below, which will take you to our EasyChair submission system. The registration to the system of one of the authors with a valid email address is required for the submission and review process. When in EasyChair please make sure you select the type of abstract you are submitting (short or full) and select the appropriate topics. Please note that registering to the submission system does not entail registering for the conference, and no fee is required at this stage.

Review process: All submissions will be double-reviewed by the GISRUK 2020 organising committee and all authors notified by the end of February. Submissions which are not accepted for presentation will be considered for a poster.
Scholarships: For those abstracts submitted by early career researchers, a limited number of scholarships will be available.
We fully appreciate that not all interested applicants may want to present their work orally through a presentation, and therefore we are more than happy to consider such applicants for a poster. Please follow the normal submission process, and then contact us as at gisruk2020@bbk.ac.uk with your submission details, your paper title and paper id from EasyChair, and we will take this into account in our review and scheduling process.
Equal opportunities: We welcome diversity and are striving to offer equal opportunities to all participants and interested parties. We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of age, disability, ethnic or national origin, family circumstances, gender, political beliefs, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex, sexual orientation, and socio economic background.
