JSLS2021 is the 22nd Annual International Conference of the Japanese Society for Language Sciences. JSLS2021 will be held June 5 (Sat.)- June 6 (Sun.), 2021. It will be an online virtual conference hosted by Okinawa International University in Okinawa, Japan. (Note: JSLS2020 was originally scheduled to be held in-person at Okinawa International University in 2020, but was cancelled due to COVID-19.)
JSLS hopes to stimulate research in the language sciences based on natural language data, in areas including language acquisition, psycholinguistics, discourse analysis and sociolinguistics, and to support the development of the language sciences through exchange between researchers. This conference is international and multidisciplinary.
Conference Areas
JSLS2021 accepts and promotes scientific research related to linguistics (e.g., phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics), first language acquisition, second language acquisition, psycholinguistics, language production, mother tongue education, foreign language instruction, natural language processing, cognitive linguistics, brain sciences, bilingualism, sociolinguistics, discourse research, sign language and linguistic philosophy, among others.
Submission Guidelines
All presentations must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. Submissions are welcome in any research area related to language sciences (see above). Each paper presentation will be 25 minutes in length (20 minutes for presentation, followed by a 5-minute question and answer period.). The presentation of posters will be held in online format (details forthcoming). Oral presentations are eligible for the 12th JCHAT Awards (Best Paper, and Best Paper Using JCHAT/CHILDES). JSLS is a bilingual conference and papers and posters may be presented in either English or Japanese.

Please note: Applicants who opt for an oral presentation might be asked to do a poster presentation instead as the number of slots for oral presentations is limited.

Abstract (Paper): Please send your abstract as a pdf file attachment. Do not include any information in your abstract which may reveal your identity, as the review process will be conducted anonymously.
Length of oral presentations abstracts: 2 pages of A4 or letter-size paper (including title, tables, figures & references)
Length of poster presentation abstracts:1 page of A4 or letter-size paper (including titles, tables, figures & references)
Formatting guidelines:
- Margins: In the case of A4, Top/bottom: 30 mm, Left/Right: 25 mm; in the case of letter-size: all margins: 1 inch.
- Font: For English abstracts: Times New Roman (or a similar font), 12 point for text, 10 point for references/footnotes; for Japanese abstracts: MS Mincho, 12 point for text, 10 point for references/footnotes
- Length of abstract and line spacing: single-spaced, 1000 words maximum (for English).
- File type: Save the file as a PDF file (no other formats will be accepted).
- Name of file: Save the file with your name <first name>-<last name>.pdf (e.g., Roger-Brown.pdf)
Each abstract will be reviewed by two reviewers. The results will be announced by mid-March, 2021.
Qualifications for Presenters
Please note that primary presenters of papers/posters that have been accepted should be members of JSLS by April 24, 2021. Co-presenters do not have to be members, but must be registered for the conference if they plan to attend. Terms of Agreement
All presenters must agree with the following conditions:
- Your paper in the Conference Handbook will be accessible in PDF form on the JSLS website. This is a service exclusively for JSLS members.
- You may only submit one abstract as the first author. The first author must pay both the JSLS membership fee and the JSLS2021 participation fee.
- If students are first authors, they must pay the JSLS2021 student participation fee and the JSLS membership fee. If there is a co-author who is a JSLS member, the student does not need to pay the membership fee.
- It is possible to be involved in a second or third oral presentation (e.g., as a second or third author) if someone else is the first author and will present at the conference.
- First authors must be present at the conference and present their papers.
- There is no restriction on the number of poster proposals nor the number of poster presentations.

Conference Handbook
If your abstract is accepted, you will be requested to send a copy of your paper for the Conference Handbook by April 30, 2021. The maximum length for oral presentations and poster presentations are four pages and two pages respectively. The paper size should be A4 or letter. The format for the handbook is similar to that of the abstract submission; detailed instructions will be provided after acceptance.
Publications
Oral presentations and poster presentations presented at JSLS2021 may be submitted to the JSLS journal, Studies in Language Sciences. Submissions will be reviewed by two or more reviewers. There is no specific deadline for general submissions.

言語科学会 (The Japanese Society for Language Sciences) では,第22回年次国際大会(JSLS2021) を virtual conferenceとしてオンライン開催いたします。 大会では、(1) 口頭発表および (2)ポスター発表の2つの形態で、日本語または英語での研究発表を募集いたします。
JSLSについて
言語科学会は、「言語の理論的・実証的研究をとおして、 言語科学の発展に資するとともに、人間理解に貢献すること」を目的とした学会です。そのスコープは、言語理論(音韻論、形態論、統語論、意味論、語用論/運用論)、第一言語獲得、第二言語習、心理言語学、言語理解、言語産出 (発話)、母語教育、外国語教育、自然言語処理、脳科学、バイリンガリズム、社会言語学、談話研究、言語哲学など、きわめて広範囲に及びます。本学会は、こうした広範囲の研究者がそれぞれの専門領域に留まることなく、広い視野からの問題意識を持ち、関連領域の研究者と積極的な意見交換を行う場を提供します。
発表について
本学会での研究発表は、他の学会や学術誌上で未発表のものに限ります。同じ内容を本学会を含む複数の学会で発表されることはお控えください。発表内容は、言語科学に関するすべてのテーマを歓迎いたします。発表は、口頭発表の場合には25分(発表20分と質疑5分)、ポスター発表は、オンラインで行われます(詳細は近日中に)。 口頭発表のみ第12回JCHAT賞:優秀論文賞 および 優秀論文賞(JCHAT/CHILDES利用)の対象となります。発表言語は日本語か英語のいずれかです。
発表応募資格
発表者は、2021年4月24日の時点で言語科学会の会員でなければなりません。共同発表者は学会会員である必要はありませんが、大会に参加する場合は参加登録が必要となります。学会会員申込みの方法は、以下のページをご参照ください:http://jslsweb.sakura.ne.jp/wp/?page_id=138
諸注意
発表申込をする際には、以下の点に同意する必要があります。
- 大会ハンドブックの原稿は会員専用サイトにアップされます。
- 第一著者として口頭発表を行うことができるのは1件とし、会員として年会費と大会参加費を支払うものとします。
- 学生が第一著者の場合は、学生としての大会参加費を払うことで、発表することができます。
- ただし、論文の著者の中に会員が含まれていない場合は、学生は学生会員として年会費と大会参加費の両方を支払うものとします。
- 口頭発表として発表申込ができるのは、第一著者か否かに関わらず計3件までとします。
- 原則として第一著者が発表を行うこととします。
- ポスター発表申込には、発表件数及び申込件数についての制限は設けません。

Conference Handbook 大会ハンドブック
発表が採択された方には、2021年4月30日までに大会ハンドブック用原稿を提出していただきます。口頭発表の場合はA4用紙4ページ以内、ポスターの場合は2ページ以内(モノクロ印刷)となります。フォーマットは投稿時のフォーマットとほぼ同様ですが、採択されてから指示がありますのでそれに従ってください。
