Call for Papers
To better understand and appreciate the research on and applications for learning analytics in higher education in Asia, we invite frontline teachers (at all levels), instructional designers, educational technologists, scholars, and researchers to share their projects and/or findings with us in the symposium. We are interested in projects at higher education institutions in Asia that are in progress and those that have been completed. Possible topics include:
- The development and/or evaluation of learning analytics systems;
- The use of data to predict learners’ behaviors or to explore the profile of learners;
- Text analytics for teaching and learning purposes;
- Social analytics;
- Applications for learning analytics at the programme / university level; and
- Opportunities and challenges conducting learning analytics in Asian higher education.
The above list is not exhaustive, and you can propose other topics that fit with the theme of the symposium.
Proposals can be submitted for three types of sessions:
Paper Presentation (30 minutes [~15 minutes presentation and 10 minutes Q&A])
Proposals for paper presentation should present and discuss original research or a project related to the symposium theme. Presenters will be given 15 minutes for the presentation and are expected to leave 10 minutes to interact with the audience
Workshop (1.5 hours)
Proposals for facilitating a workshop should include practical, hands-on, interactive activities that participants will engage in, or “show and tell” about tools and programs used or developed for learning analytics.
Poster Presentation
Proposals for a poster presentation should present a piece of original research or a project related to the symposium theme. Poster presentations will be scheduled during tea breaks and after lunch. Presenters are expected to stand next to the poster and discuss their work with interested attendees during the poster sessions. Presenters should bring their own poster - no printing services will be provided. The size of the poster will be confirmed upon acceptance.
[Note: The organizing committee reserves the right to recommend an alternative type of session to presenters. Such arrangements will be made with the applicants]
Proposal Submission
Proposals should include (1) a 250-word summary of the session and (2) a 50-word bio (for each presenter), to be submitted as a DOC/ DOCX file online at EasyChair by 7 April, 2019 (Hong Kong Time). Notification of acceptance will be sent by mid-April and presenters are expected to register by mid-April.
Selection Process
All proposals will undergo a blind review by members of the organising committee or their delegates.
Equipment
Laptop computers will be available in every room, and audio and/or video equipment can also be arranged if it is requested on the proposal form. Requests for special equipment should be confirmed when presenters register for the conference.
Publication
The organising committee is actively seeking for publication opportunities. More information will be available in due course.
