Use of ICT in the Universities of the Dominican Republic

Abstract

This research focuses on the use of technology in universities in the Dominican Republic, with the purpose of improving educational quality and administrative efficiency. 52 higher education institutions throughout the country are addressed, with the objective of understanding the implementation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in academic and administrative areas. The objectives include the formulation of recommendations, the evaluation of advantages and performance, and the analysis of technological competencies. Through interviews, questionnaires and statistical analysis, we seek to understand the relationship between the availability of technological resources and the attitude of teachers and students towards ICTs. The study is justified by the need to optimize the effective integration of technology in teaching and university management. The importance of training and the positive attitude of those involved for the success of technological projects is highlighted. The methodology adopted is mixed, using hypotheses to address issues such as the lack of progress in virtual education and the differences between universities in the National District and in the interior. The variables examine recommendations for the use of ICT, advantages of its implementation, academic performance, teaching performance, technological competencies and attitudes towards ICT. In conclusion, this research seeks to provide valuable perspectives to enhance the effective integration of ICTs in Dominican universities, thus improving the quality of education and management. The conclusions reached will serve to evaluate the feasibility of the investment in the automation of the administrative and academic area, in personnel qualification and the acquisition of equipment and software to be able to respond to the requests and requirements of the internal and external personnel of the universities.
