The Use of Indicators of Comparative Advantages Revealed in the Analysis of Maghreb Agricultural Exports to the European Union

EasyChair Preprint no. 5751

Abstract

Trade between the European Union and the Maghreb countries has always been an essential issue with many political and socio-economic issues. The emerging geostrategic trends challenge us to come back to the need to diversify the national economy and identify the main comparative advantages that would boost the country's economic development. Privileged relations have existed between the two shores of the Mediterranean. It was therefore natural that the rules governing international trade should be established between the European Union and the Maghreb countries. Cooperation agreements were concluded in 1976 with the principle of free access of all Maghrebian products to the community market. However, Maghreb agrifood exports have changed little and seem to have more and more difficulty in accessing the common market. So why are the Maghreb countries unable to sell their agricultural products on European markets? What are the main constraints encountered by the Maghreb countries producing agricultural products? What is the point of using the revealed comparative advantage method in the analysis of Maghreb exports to Europe? So many questions asked whose explanations will find their answers within the agreements concluded between the two protagonists but also in relation to the master plan of the production system followed by the countries concerned but also through an attempt to model the indicators of comparative advantages. Revealed (IACR) concerning the Algerian agricultural sector.
