Evaluation of the Practice of Barrier Measures Against Covid 19: Survey of the Population of Bamako

Abstract

Coronavirus disease is an infectious disease caused by a virus that is, to date, little known. At the beginning of the pandemic, due to the lack of effective curative and preventive treatment, measures to mitigate the spread (barrier measures) of the disease were identified and recommended. The aim of this study is to assess the practice of barrier measures against the spread of the coronavirus disease in Bamako through a descriptive study. A survey was conducted among the population in the six (06) communes of the district of Bamako to achieve the objective of this study. A total of 120 people were interviewed, 64 of whom were male (53.3%) and the other 56 were female. People between the ages of 10 and 20 were the youngest. The study revealed that 75% believed in the existence of the disease. But a fringe of the population supported a conspiracy theory. A rate of 95% or 114 of the respondents knew about the barrier measures and 70% of them said they respected the measures. The health and economic risks are the most perceptible among the risks of the pandemic in Bamako according to 77.5% and 67.5% of the population respectively.
