Suicide Prevention Application in Rio Grande do Sul

Abstract

The Health Secretariat of Rio Grande do Sul discloses that bringing about the end of one's life is among the leading causes of death in Brazil, including suicide, fourth leading cause of death among young Brazilians aged 15 to 29 years. The state government published the official document called the Strategic Surveillance Agenda and Suicide Prevention and Health Promotion in Brazil. In this context, this work aims to develop a hybrid mobile app that delivers life promotion materials, assistance and support to users, actively collaborating in the prevention of suicide. Through research on health materials, understand the scenario in which the application will be produced, and how the information will be handled. With interviews with health professionals were defined the main features and functionality to be application needs to have, to provide the support specific to users. Based on the information obtained, the functionalities of the application were defined, among the main highlights are: periodically recommending motivating content to users; provide a place secretive where it can express itself; have a mechanism for emergency with contacts of close people. Having the suicide scenario seen as something extremely serious and of concern, this paper seeks to contribute to the prevention of this serious public health problem.
