To analyze the Nurses' perception about the role of Nursing in the promotion of mental health. Methods: Qualitative research with exploratory and descriptive approach. The research subjects were five Nurses working in two hospital institutions that have psychiatric units, which accepted to participate in the study and were included in the inclusion criteria. As for the analysis of the data, the responses of the questionnaires were initially transcribed in order to organize the reports and affirmations in a certain order, thus initiating a first grouping of responses that were submitted to content analysis. Among the techniques of content analysis, thematic analysis was chosen. Results: Thematic analysis raised resulted in two categories: Comprehensive care as a basis for strengthening mental health promotion; Strategies for the nursing team to promote the health of patients with mental disorders. Conclusion: The aspects that need to be better planned, organized or reorganized are perceived. However, it is necessary to understand that each human being is unique and multidimensional, which will require of nurses professionals the capacity of responsibility, common sense, reflection and sensitivity.
