The Use of Virtual Forums as a Tool for Collaborative Learning Through the Formulation of Questions Improves Academic Performance, Acquisition of Skills and Active Learning

Abstract

Introduction: It is known that the formulation of multiple-answer questions (MAQ) is an active methodology useful in content learning and skills development. Collaborative learning also allows the development of interpersonal skills. Therefore, we consider studying the possible benefits for students of the formulation of MAQ in a collaborative environment.

Methods: Each student should post a MAQ weekly in a previously assigned group virtual forum. Once corrected and answered by their peers, it had to be corrected and/or re-formulated by the student who performed. The qualifications obtained, study habits and competencies questionnaires that were intended to be achieved, were analysed.

Results/Conclusions: Participation in the activity improved the average grade and the percentage of approved, allowing students to reach different skills, as well as greater involvement in their learning process. Also, the activity had the students satisfaction.
